In this report for Brookings, we analyzed the impact of Amazon Fulfillment Centers on the labor market as well as long-term mobility potential for warehouse workers. We used a difference-in-difference model as well as a fixed-effects regression model to find that the presence of Amazon Fulfillment Centers does not significantly increase overall employment in a given county. We also determined that employment in Amazon warehouses does not lead to increased income during the years following a worker’s Amazon employment.
